The company reported in November that the most popular Windows 8 device overall was the Microsoft Surface with Windows RT only two weeks after the OS debuted. But the latest poll shows clearly that nothing has been able to stop the newest Nokia Lumia.

Compared to other Windows Phone devices, the Lumia 710 model accounts for over 24 percent of the overall market share for devices that use Microsoft's mobile software. The Lumia 800 is second on the list with 18 percent, and the 610 is third with 17 percent of the overall market. The first HTC device to appear on the list is the Radar which was fifth only accounting for 4 percent of the market share according to the study.

Nokia overall is the top Windows Phone hardware maker as well by 76 percent compare to HTC which only received 12 percent according to the study. Samsung is the third top Windows Phone hardware maker with just 9 percent.

"AdDuplex says that this stat can be compared to Microsoft's claim that its partner have sold "four times" as many Windows Phone 8 handsets at launch as they did a year ago," said Thurrott on his site. "According to AdDuplex, the average daily users per app are up about 3.5 times over last year."

The biggest Windows Phone market according to the study is the U.S. by 14 percent, narrowly edging out China which came in at second with13 percent according to the study.
