Microsoft finally revealed their plans for the Surface Pro device today, and will be priced at $900 according to the company's website.

"It's a full PC AND a tablet," Surface General Manager Panos Panay wrote in a blog post Thursday.

The Pro device will weigh less than two pounds and is going to cost more than most experts thought it would once it is released in January. The device will be sold with a base starting price of $900 for the 64GB version. The 128GB version will cost well over $1,000 the company stated Thursday.

Other specs that people can expect include:

  -Full-size USB 3.0 port

-10.6" 9 ClearType with 1920x1080 full HD resolution

-Core i5 processor (clock speed not specified)

-Full digitizer and ink support with Palm Block technology

-Mini DisplayPort (can drive an external display up to 2560 x 1440 resolution)

The 64GB version comes with a 10.6-inch screen and if you include the price of a keyboard or touch cover, the device will cost a little more than its closest competitor, the Apple MacBook Air.

Apple equipped the 64GB device with backlit keyboard, a high-resolution display camera, and can hold up to 5 consecutive hours of battery life without having to recharge. The 11-inch device is priced on the Apple store for $1,000.

The price for the Pro comes to most of those who were interested in the device as a huge disappointment. Microsoft had been promising the device would be available in the same price range as regular Surface device. The current Surface is sold with a starting price of $500, nearly half the amount for the new device.

Both versions of the new devices will come equipped with 4GB of RAM and will run exclusively off of the newly released Windows 8 programming system according to Panay. Microsoft designed Windows 8 specifically with touch screen devices in mind and the Surface was a big reason the company completely revamped their Windows system.

Simply put, the Pro device will either be a device that will be talked about for years to come, or a complete disaster. Buyers will have a huge say in the legacy the device achieves once released this winter, and with price announced today they're going to have to come up with an incredible advertisement campaign to get people to spend over $1,000 on it.

The average price for a touch cover with keys printed on will cost $120 and a Type cover with keys costs $130 according to Microsoft.
