DMAX Ltd, a combined endeavor between Isuzu Motors and General Motors will be producing its 1,500,000th Duramax 6.6L diesel engine this year.
"Our Duramax diesel is one of the best in the industry," said Betty Wessel, DMAX Chief Financial Officer, "Duramax has become a great success story and is a world-class engine with superior quality, industry-leading horsepower and competitive fuel economy."
According to a press release issued by GM, the engine "delivers a segment-leading 397 horsepower" with over 3,000 rpm and 765 pounds of torque at 1,600 rpm. The engine is currently found in vehicles like the GM Sierra HD pickup and GM Chevrolet Silverado HD.
It is also available in the GMC Savana and full-size Chevy Express.
The DMAX facility located in Chicago, IL is over 584,000 square feet and had 517 workers to produce the diesel engine. GM introduced the diesel engine in 2001 when they included it in the Chevy Silverado HD.
GM owns 60 percent of company, while Isuzu owns 40.
"This is a significant achievement for our facility and our employees here at DMAX," Maho Mitsuya, DMAX CEO said. "We're committed to building quality into every engine - whether it's our first or our 1,500,000th."
Thanks to its partnerships with other companies and its own brands like Chevy, Buick and Cadillac, the company is currently the world's largest-growing automotive company. GM produces cars in over 30 different countries around the world.
