NASCAR driver Denny Hamiln was in a vicious crash Thursday morning during a test run at Kansas Speedway that left the driver "dizzy" afterword.

The accident occurred on the third lap while breaking in fresh tires. Hamlin slammed his number 11 Toyota into a wall going 200 mph according to USA Today. The corner where Hamlin crashed is the same corner Dale Earnhardt Jr. crashed into just a couple of months ago when he sustained the first of two concussions this season.

Hamlin was able to drive the car back to the garage, but was advised by his racing crew to get himself checked out. Hamlin said he wouldn't normally have gone to get checked out, but since Earnhardt Jr. recently received two concussions while racing, he decided it might be a good idea.

Hamlin said was as honest as he could be while be evaluated.

"Obviously the severity of it, and the speeds we were running, it was a wise thing to do anyway simply because of the speed of the impact," said Hamlin to reporters after the crash. "I think that they were just trying to be safe in asking me how I felt and I was honest with them and said I was a little dizzy and they said just come back in an hour to make sure you're okay."

Hamlin stated that the accident was similar to the one he had in Oct. of 2008 where he blew a tired while leading a race at Talladega according to Fox Sports.

"We went to the hospital, got a MRI and had a slight concussion there," Hamlin said. "That was similar but, I feel much better than I did after the Talladega one."

NASCAR was asked whether or not they treated Hamlin's crash just as they would any other crash that occurred before Earnhardt Jr. suffered two concussions.

"Safety has been and always will be the No. 1 priority for our officials," said Kristi King, a NASCAR spokeswoman in a press statement. "They are trained and experienced to be on the outlook for any type of situation in regards to safety at the racetrack. This is just an example of them doing their job."

Hamlin is currently third in the Chase for the Spring Cup with 2199 total points. He is behind Brad Keselowski who has 2214 points, and Jimmie Johnson who has 2207 points.
