Ford Motor Company experienced a sales increase for August of 13 percent over August of 2011. Nearly all Ford models have experienced not only year-over-year sales, but yea- to-date sales over 2011 as well.
Retail sales, as opposed to fleet sales, were up 19 percent, for cars, utilities, and trucks.
Ford utility sales were 59,508 units for August, a 19.3-percent increase over 2011. From the beginning of the year through August, Ford has sold 412,871 utilities, a 9.5-percent increase over 2011's figures.
The Explorer experienced its best August since 2006, with 13,168 vehicles sold, a 33-percent increase over August of last year. Year-to-date, Explorer has sold 100,202 units, a 17-percent increase over the corresponding period in 2011.
The Edge utility sold 11,603 units in August, a 23.3-percent year-over-year increase. Year-to-date sales are at 86,216, a 9-percent increase over 2011.
The Escape sold 11,603 units in August, a 36.8-percent over last August and the small utility's best August ever. So confident is Ford in the demand for the Escape that last month, it added a third crew to the Louisville Assembly Plant to ramp up production of the model.
So far this year, 176,927 Escapes have sold, a 5.5-percent increase over last year.
Ford passenger cars experienced a sales increase of 7 percent in August, including a 35-percent increase in retail sales.
Fusion saw its sixth consecutive monthly sales record in a row, selling 21,690 units last month; a 21-percent increase over last year. The sedan's year-to-date sales are at 181,865 cars, a 7.7-percent increase.
Focus sales were 19,073 cars, a 35-percent year-over-year increase. Year-to-date sales for the Focus are 166,950, a 31.5-percent increase over last year's.
The Mustang's August sales totaled 6,387 units, an 11.7-percent increase over last year's August. The number brings Mustang's year-to-date sales to 62,382, a 21-percent increase over last year.
Taurus's sales for last month were 5,421 cars, an 8.6-percent increase over August 2011. So far this year, 46,042 units of the sedan have been sold, a 6.5-percent increase over last year's year-to-date figures.
Ford's truck sales increased by 6.1 percent to 71,374 units last month. This brings the year's total so far to 539,828, a 5.9-percent increase over last year.
The F-Series truck sold 58,201 vehicles last month, a 19.3-percent increase over August of last year. The year-to-date total is 408,656, a 12.9-percent increase over last year's.
The E-Series sold 9,151 units last month, an increase over August 2011 of just 0.1 percent. Year-to-date sales have seen a more substantial gain of 5.6 percent, to 84,990 trucks.
The Transit Connect van sold 3,324 units last month, a 21.6-percent increase over sales of the previous August. Year-to-date sales stand at 22,905, an 11.8-percent increase over the same period last year.
Of the Ford brand, only the Fiesta and the Flex experienced a year-over-year decline in sales last month. The Flex sold 2,635 units, a 6.7-percent decrease from last August's sales. Year-to-date sales for the full-size crossover, however, are 12.7 percent higher than last year's, with 21,442 sold.
The Fiesta sold 4,176 cars last month, a 28.4-percent decrease from the previous August. Year-to-date sales are also significantly down, with 39,561 sold, a 25.7-percent decrease from the same period last year.
Representing Ford Motor Company's Lincoln brand, the MKS also saw an August sales decrease (down 32 percent to 1,019 units); but the luxury sedan has experienced a year-to-date sales increase of 12 percent, with 8,701 units sold so far this year.
The Navigator full-size SUV had sales totaling 595 units last month, one unit less than the previous August. Year-to-date sales for the model are 4,976, a 0.2-percent increase over 2011.
The MKZ experienced large gains last month, selling 3,327 cars, a 42.4-percent increase over August of 2011. Year-to-date sales - at 20,899 units - are 9.3 percent higher than last year's.
The Lincoln MKX sold 2,518 units last month, representing a year-over-year increase of 27.8 percent. Year-to-date sales for the crossover are 16,670 units, a 13.4-percent increase over the same period last year.
Finally, the Lincoln MKT full-size crossover saw year-over-year sales increase by 48 percent to 604 units. Year-to-date sales for the model are 47.5 percent higher than last year's, at 4,990 units.
