While gadget freaks continue to wait for Google to provide more details about Nexus 7 2016 release date, specs, and other features, the search giant has refrained from spilling the beans about its highly anticipated tablet.

Despite the lack of an official announcement, many believed that the Nexus 7 will be rebranded as Pixel 7 based on reports suggesting that Google has scrapped its Nexus smartphone series. Contrary to these rumors, 9To5Google reported that the long-awaited tablet will bear the Nexus moniker simply as consumers are more familiar with this brand.

Moreover, this also suggests that the photo of the Huawei-made Google 7 tablet posted by renowned phone leaker, Evan Blass (evleaks) on Twitter could be true.

Other rumors doing rounds suggest Google Nexus 7 will not hit the store shelves until 2017 as the device is slated to undergo some radical overhauls this year. If this proved to be true, Nexus fans may be in for a long wait before they can get their hands on the purported tablet.

Meanwhile, the pocketable and robust Nexus 7 is said to come with a budget-friendly price tag; however, if Google decides to brand the device as Google Pixel under the premium category, it may end up bearing a hefty price tag.

The Nexus 7 is likely to come with the Andromeda OS (operating system) that will facilitate high performance for the device. The Andromeda OS is likely to debut on a new Pixel laptop slated to be released next year. Internally dubbed as 'Bison' (and informally nicknamed as 'Pixel 3'), the new Pixel laptop would be the closure of years of collaborated hard work by Google's Pixel, Android and Chrome OS teams, according to Android Police.

The Nexus 7 is likely to feature an AMOLED screen display, paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It will come with a robust 5,100mAh battery capacity and will sport a USB type C port. The Nexus 7 is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with Adreno 530 GPU. The device is rumored to feature a 13MP rear camera.
