Mercedes-Benz USA sold 19,311 units in July, an increase of 13.8 percent over July of 2011. This number brings year-to-date sales for Mercedes passenger cars to 147,905, a company record.
Factoring in Smart models and Sprinter commercial vehicles, the company sold 22,294 units last month. This represents an increase over July 2011 of 5.8 percent. The year-to-date total is 164,912, an increase of 18.6 percent over 2011.
Sales were led by the C-, E- and GL-Class models.
The C-Class, with a starting price of $35,350, sold 5,663 vehicles, an increase of 24.4 percent over last year. In second place was the E-Class, costing $51,000 to start and selling 5,089. The GL SUV class - with a starting price at $61,570 - came in third, selling 2,494, a 32-percent increase.
The 2013 SL roadster - which debuted in its sixth-generation incarnation this spring and has a starting price of $105,500 - sold 449 units, a 382.8-percent increase over the month before.
The CL, with a starting price of $115,300, sold 39 units last month, an increase of 62.5 percent over the same period last year.
The SLS AMG "supercar" sold 59 units, an increase of 20.4 percent over July 2011.
Going by year-to-date numbers, the top sellers were the C-Class, with 43,349 cars sold; the E-Class, with 35,455; and the M-Class, with 22,416.
The AMG class sold 457 cars last month, an increase of 11.7 percent over July of 2011's 409 and 54.3 percent year-to-date.
Mercedes's BlueTEC diesel vehicles saw a year-to-date increase of 45 percent, selling 9,957 versus 6,866 sold last year.
The company's Smart brand saw its sales increase for the ninth month in a row. The brand 780 cars in July, a 138.5-percent increase over the 327 sold in July. The year-to-date sales number is 5,528 units, a staggering increase of 1,590.5 percent over last year.
Sprinter vans sold 2,203 in July, an increase of 27.2 percent over last year's July, and a year-to-date increase of 30 percent.
Mercedes's certified pre-owned program sold 6,519 units in July; a 10.6-percent increase over the previous July's 5,895 vehicles. Year-to-date basis, the program sold 45,938, an increase of 0.4 percent over last year's 45,750.
