In the early hours of Sunday morning, transgender rights activist Alexis Arquette passed away in a Los Angeles Hospital. The 47-year-old's death was caused by AIDS-related complications and reportedly fell into a coma days leading into her passing.
But not less than 24-hours later, Arquette's former lover began hawking her sex tape in an attempt to cash in on her death. The price was reportedly sold for $25,000 and was bought off by the popular pornographic website, xHamster.
However, rather than posting the scandal on its site xHamster said it destroyed the tape instead. XHamster spokesman, Alexis Dawkins, told DailyMail that the company acted the way it did to preserve Arquette's memory.
"Ms. Arquette was an icon and activist in the trans community and we could not see someone smear her memory the way the selling part was trying to do," Dawkins said.
We acquired the tape and subsequently destroyed all copies of it. We hope people will remember Ms. Arquette for the activist that she was and that her memory will continue to live on.
There's not much information regarding the seller - apart that he's male - due to a legal agreement signed by the pornographic company. News of the late actress' death was broken by her brother, Richmond on social media.
"I am feeling immense gratitude to have been afforded the luxury of sharing life with him/her, for learning from Alexis, for being given the gift of being able to love him/her," Richmond wrote. "Thank you, Alexis, I love you and will love you always.
While Arquette became a high-profile campaigner for the LGBTQ community, she's best known for her acting career in Hollywood which included roles in "Pulp Fiction" and "The Wedding Singer."
After news of her death, tributes for the actress started flooding in including from Arquette's former sister-in-law, Courtney Cox.
