Environmentally active star Leonardo DiCaprio has made investment in future technology. The Golden Globe winner recently invested in Fisker Automotive, an electric car company.

The electric car maker has raised a billion dollars in a very short period of time. A deeper search into the profit, uncovered that DiCaprio was among those billion dollar investors.

"Leonardo DiCaprio is an equity investor and he will also work with Fisker on marketing and promotion," read an official Fisker statement.

The very large investment could be an added asset for Fisker. The automaker has had its share of success in the last few years. A few months ago, Fisker closed $130 million in funding.

In  May, the company publicly announced its successful delivery of 1,000 of its first cars, the Karma, to customers in the U.S. and Europe. The total profit from the initial four months of this year has exceeded $100 million, said the company.

"My foundation supports efforts to secure a sustainable future for our planet and all its inhabitants. I am delighted to be working with Fisker Automotive to promote this shared vision," DiCaprio said in an official announcement.

The "Titanic" star received the first Fisker Karma luxury electric vehicle with range extender off the production line in 2011. The Karma electric version comes with hybrid power plant and other eco-friendly features such as a wood interior trim and animal-free interiors which means no leather seats or dashboard.

Though Fisker Karma has all the latest eco-friendly features, but it comes with a celebrity price tag too. The model costs upwards of $100,000 for luxury versions.
