The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA imposed a $1.5 million fine on Volvo Cars North America for failing to issue six safety recalls within the stipulated time required by law.
The investigation carried by NHTSA in 2010 found that the Volvo failed to take the required action on recalling its faulty vehicles within the stipulated time. As per the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, automakers have five business days to notify the NHTSA after determining a defect exists.
Volvo XC70s built in 2008-10 had issues regarding tire pressure labels. Here's the list of other technical snags reported about the vehicles built by Volvo. 2010-11 C30s, 2010 S40s and V50s; a tie pressure monitoring system problem in 2007, 2010 S80s, faulty airbag wiring in 2010-11 S80s, 2010V70s, 2011XC60s, 2011 S60s, S80s, XC60s, XC70s were all recalled to address engine stalling.
The latest recall of Volvo vehicles happened earlier this year's spring which involved 2012 S60, S80, and XC70.
