A classic version of the Bentley Blower set a new record after auctioning for a whopping $7 million at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
Organizers of the festival confirmed that the 4.5 liter, supercharged classic model was the most expensive Bentley ever sold at an auction, smashing its own record price of 2.8 million pounds ($4.4 million) in 2004 at the Le Mans Classic.
The Bentley Blower was owned by British driver and one of the "Bentley Boys" Sir Henry Tim. The classic model comes with 240 hp under the hood and a single seated race car. The Bentley Blower is basically a Bentley 4.5 litter with a Roots-type supercharger being placed at the end of the crankshaft.
"Birking along with his Bentley racing friends like Woold Barnato, Dudley Benjafield and Glen Kidston were true Sporting superstars, renowned not only for their driving ability and courage but living life to the full and in some considerable style," said Richard Chrlesworth, Bentley's director of VIP and Royal Relations. "They would make the enduring tale of the Bentley Boy racer at Brooklands and Le Mans and this new record price for a Bentley achieved by Bonhams mirrors the enduring respect and esteem for their story and their cars."
The Blower is most known among car lovers for breaking the fastest time record of 137.96 mph at Brooklands in 1933.
