To some, it's the most luxurious model ever built and now it has the price tag to match.

The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which was built for race car driver Stirling Moss, now holds the title of "World's Most Expensive Car." The model sold for $35 million in a private transaction organized in April, only adding to the reputation of the international luxury car company.

According to Bloomberg, classic car collector, Craigh McCraw, purchased the 1962 Ferrari in an online transaction with a company called Anamera from Dutch-born businessman, Eric Heerma. McCraw said they couldn't resist buying the model for the whopping amount.

Bloomberg reports the model, which was built in apple green color, is one of 39 models ever built between 1962 to 1964 was listed among the most high-end classic cars.

"The market is very active at the moment," acquisitions consultant for Ferrari dealer DK Engineering in Hertfordshire, England, James Cottingtham said. "A lot of new buyers are expanding their collections and the baby-boomer generation of collectors has reached an age when they're not using their cars as much as they used to. They want to sell."

The Ferrari GTO was sold with two weeks left before the closure of the auction.
