World class Italian automaker, Ferrari, has built a 3-million pound special edition sports car for music legend Eric Clapton.

Ferrari titled the special edition Ferrari SP12EC and describes the auto as creation designed as a homage to Clapton's legendery musical career and his long lasting experience as a Ferrari owner.

Ferrari confirmed says the Sp stands for "special projec"t and EC stands for "Eric Clapton." The car took 2 years to build lit.

The SP 12 EC has been designed by the Centro Stile Ferrari in collaboration with Pininfarina and Ferrari's engineers in Maranello. The latest sports luxury version is based on the 458 Italia but features styling cues from Clapton's favorite Ferrari model, the 512 BB of the 1970s.

The engine of the model is the 458's 4.5 liter and V8. Ferrari fulfilled Clapton's request to build a latest version on the lines of 512BB but with more advanced underpinnings.

Speaking to Ferrari Magazine, Clapton admitted that the start of the project was like "being in front of a gigantic blank canvas that had to be painted on."

He said that overseeing the manufacture of the car was "one of the most satisfying things that I've ever done." Official sources of Ferrari reveal that the SP 12 EC is part of Ferrari's One-off programme, which was set up in 2007 to create unique models on demand from super-rich customers. Demands for special editions of Ferrari has been growing ever since.
