Honda began the mass production of 2013 Acura ILX on Monday in its plant in Greensburg, Ind.
The Honda Manufacturing of Indiana invited community partners and state officials in celebration of the start on Monday morning. For now, the new hybrid Acura will be built exclusively in Indiana’s plant.
“Acura has a sparkling reputation and we are thrilled to build the gateway vehicle to this brand at our Greensburg facility,” said Jun Nishimoto, president of Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, in the announcement.
“As the exclusive builder of the ILX, HMIN has a big responsibility. Our associates meet this challenge by working together as one team and today we are ready for our customers to share our pride in this beautiful new product,” Nishimoto added.
Acura ILX from Indiana will be available in three powertrain options – 2.0L 4-cylinder model, 2.4L 6-speed manual model, and the ILX Hybrid. They ILX Hybrid will be equipped with 1.5L 4-cylinder engine.
The factory opened in 2008, and the size nearly doubled last year by hiring around 1,000 new employees. According to an earlier announcement by the company, the models will be available in dealerships on May 22.
Honda has also announced that the new ILX will start below $26,000, making it as an entry-level car for the luxury brand.
“This all-new Acura luxury sedan is closely linked to the future of Acura,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of Acura for American Honda, on Monday,
“Just as the Acura ILX is the gateway to the Acura brand, Honda Manufacturing of Indiana is a gateway to Acura customers.”
