Audi Reports Best Month and Best Quarter in History

Audi reported on Tuesday that the company has seen its best month and the best first quarter in the company’s history.

In March of 2012, the German automaker sold around 143,500 units, totaling around 346,100 vehicles for the first three months of the year. The single month record was a 14.1 percent increase and the quarter record was a 10.8 percent increase from the same period of the previous year. Both sales figures marked the best record ever.

“We kicked off 2012 very successfully and expect growth to continue in the months to come,” says Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG.

“Our new A3 will be rolled out from the second half of this year, and we have just introduced the new-generation A6L in China.”

The luxury brand was especially successful in China, achieving a growth of 40.5 percent with 90,036 total units sold in the first quarter. Audi reported that A4L, A6L, Q5, SUV, and A8 have helped the boost in China.

Audi also saw an ongoing success in United States, with 18 percent single-month growth and 16.1 percent first quarter growth, compared to the same period in 2011. Particularly, the A6 sold 3,581 units, an 87.3 percent increase from last year.

On the contrast, the European market was not so favorable. The overall sales of Audi during the first quarter of 2012 decreased slightly from the previous year by 0.1 percent. Even with Russia gaining 62.6 percent growth with total of 7,174 units sold in the first quarter, slow starts in countries such as Italy, France, and Spain decreased the overall sales. Italy dropped by 22.6 percent, Spain by 12.5 percent, and France by 1.3 percent. Audi, however, doesn’t seem desperate yet, as the sales have been increasing in each consecutive month. In fact, the March sales record of 2012 was 7.0 percent higher than the same month in 2011.
