Toyota March Sales Highest Since 2008

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A announced Tuesday that March 2012 was its best March since 2008.

The 203,282 units sold last month also marked a 11.2 percent increase compared to the same month last year on a daily selling rate basis.

"Toyota dealers had their best-selling month outside of Cash for Clunkers since the pre-recession days of August 2008," commented Jeff Bracken, vice president of Toyota Division sales.

"Camry and Prius also continue to shine as both set records, including Camry's best March ever and an all-time high for Prius sales," he added in Tuesday's announcement.

Based on volume, March 2012 had 28 selling days compared to 27 selling days in the same month last year and TMS sales increased by 15.4 percent compared to last March.

Specifically, looking at the sales record of each brand in March, Toyota Division passenger cars witnessed a total sale of 113,135 units - an increase of 19.5 percent compared to last March. Camry and Camry Hybrid reached its best-ever March with a 30.5 percent yearly increase.

Lexus passenger cars recorded a sale of 11,477 units - a 5.4 percent increase from March 2011.

TMS Hybrids also recorded a sale of 38,215 hybrid vehicles - a 49.9 percent increase compared to March 2011.

"With strong first quarter results and key economic indicators remaining upbeat, we see this momentum carrying into the months ahead," remarked Bracken.
