Porsche Recalls 2012 911 Carrera S for Fuel Leaks

Porsche is recalling more than 1,200 of its 911 Carrera S sports cars because of a fuel line can come loose and cause a fire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated on its website on Saturday that the line could come apart and fuel could leak. This could cause loss of power, possibly even resulting in a crash and a fire. Approximately 1,232 Porsche 911 Carrera S sports cars in the U.S. that are manufactured between October 26, 2011 and January 24, 2012 are affected.

While reacting to the statement made by the NHTSA, Porsche says the problem occurs because of a coolant pipe touching a connection on the fuel line. As per the industry standards, the recalled vehicles will be replaced with the fuel line or make sure the connections are tight. The auto maker says that a spacer will be installed to keep the line apart.

The voluntary recall was issued three days following the official NHTSA letter was sent to Porsche.

Recall notices often have been linked to high volume cars and crossover vehicles. Cases where exotic vehicle builders, such as Porsche, being pressed into safeguarding the safety of their vehicles in post-production can provide a sense of amusement for those unable to realistically afford the hottest street machines. The 2012 model start at a price around $96,000.

Porsche announced that no fire or accidents have been reported so far.
