2015 Kia Sedona Debuts at New York Auto Show

The 2015 Kia Sedona made its global debut Monday at the New York Auto Show.

The updated midsize van available in seven- or eight-passenger versions is the last piece to complete the restyling of Kia's lineup under the carmaker's new direction, Kia said in a press release. Starting in 2009, the South Korea-based company has been reimagining its vehicles under chief design officer Peter Schreyer.

Exterior touches include available 19-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights and an integrated bumper guard. On the inside, the Sedona has flexible seating that can be shifted for more leg room as well as stain-resistant fabric.

The van runs on a new Lambda Gasoline Direct Injection 3.3-liter V6 engine, which replaces the 3.5-liter V6 on the outgoing model. Touted as more powerful than its predecessor, the 3.3-liter engine offers 276 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque.

The vehicle is available with optional driving systems that include Vehicle Stability Management, Forward Collision Warning System, Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The Sedona is expected to be available in the U.S. in the late summer or early fall. Kia has not yet announced pricing.

The 2014 Kia Sedona LX starts at $26,795 in standard trim, including an $895 destination charge, according to Edmunds.com.

The latest version is a "brand new vehicle," Stephanie Brinley, a senior analyst for the Americas at IHS Automotive, told Edmunds. "There will be major changes to the chassis, engine, exterior and interior."

The redesigned 2015 minivan will continue the Sedona's competition with the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Honda Odyssey, Nissan Quest and Toyota Sienna. The update marks the first big change for the Sedona since the model launched in 2005, Edmunds earlier reported.
