Navy Jet Crash: Instructor, Student Both Injured During Pensacola During Training Flight

A training jet crashed at Naval Air Station Pensacola while approaching the runway on Nov. 4, according to a Navy statement.

The flight instructor and student pilot were both taken to a nearby hospital.

"The two crew members are being treated at local hospitals right now," Navy spokewoman Lt. Lauryn Dempsey said, according to CNN. "Both are stable."

The two-seater, $22 million T-45C Goshawk jet was on a training flight when it crashed near the end of a runway in Pensacola at approximately 10:30 a.m., according to the Navy statement.

The names of the pilots have not been released as of press time. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

This is the first crash to take place at the training program since May 2012. No one was killed during the May crash either, according to Navy Lt. John Supple.

"I don't want to say they are stopped until the investigation is complete, but they are stopped indefinitely," Supple said to the Pensacola News Journal regarding the temporary halt of training operations during the investigation. "When they are ready to get back in the air, we'll get them back in the air."

Over 919 pilots and 233 Naval flight officers have earned their wings through the Naval Air Training Command, which is technically based in Texas but is comprised of several different bases, according to the Associated Press.
