It's Official - The Audi Sport Quattro Concept Will Not Be Produced

The Audi Sport Quattro concept will not make it to production as the carmaker has officially ruled it out. Stephan Winkelmann from Lamborghini, and now head of Audi Sport GmbH, admitted that the concept is a "nice dream," but it is not a priority.

The Quattro sports car concept was first unveiled by Audi in 2010 at the Paris auto show, Motor Authority reported. The second concept, which the Quattro is widely known for, was then revealed in 2013 at the Frankfurt auto show.

As the Audi Sport Quattro was interesting, many hoped that it would soon go into production. Many have waited for any news about its release date to the public. However, dreams were crushed by the recent comments of the head. Judging from the tone, it would seem that an SUV is the cause of its termination.

"I think we have so much in front of us that the most important thing is to get the lineup where we need it," Winkelmann said (via Car and Driver). "I think there is the opportunity for a very limited car, but this is not my top priority at the moment."

The new head also said that Audi is interested in developing more RS versions of its SUVs, which would be more distinct from the the S models going forward. Winkelmann said that motorists and pedestrians alike should be able to differentiate the two models when seen on the road.

Car enthusiasts can also expect more limited-run versions of the Audi RS-branded SUVs. It is highly likely that there will be Performance versions that will have higher power and speed.

As of now, the Audi Sport Quattro is out of the picture. Fans should then look forward to the new RS models instead, which are expected to have revamped appearance and engine.
