The Cleveland Cavaliers has added Andrew Bogut to their roster, probably creating one of the most powerful teams on the 2017-2018 NBA season. The 7-foot Australian center signed on Thursday and will be wearing the number 6 jersey once he makes his debut as an official Cavs player.
To be able to sign in Bogut to the team, the Cavs had to waive Jordan McRae in favor of the center. In fact, he is the fourth player to join the Cleveland Cavaliers since 2017 ushered in.
Tyronn Lue, the team's coach, said last Wednesday: "'He brings a physicality, a shot-blocking presence. A guy who can pass the ball at the 5 position and that's what we needed." One other factor that made sure Bogut had a seat at the Cavs table is reportedly his compatriot Matthew Dellavedova.
According to David Griffin, Cleveland Cavaliers GM, Dellavedova played a role in the transition process. "He [Andrew Bogut] was really tight with Matthew Dellavedova, who told him great things about the process here [Cavs]," said Griffin, reports NBA.com.
Reportedly, the Australian center will earn around $US385,000 for the season under the Cavs. This is far less than the contract he had with the Mavericks. But over a week-long decision, after being waived by Philadelphia on Monday, Andrew Bogut might have made a move that is right up his alley, siding with a team who has a real shot at the finals.
Having been the first overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, he will make his debut on Monday when teh Cleveland Cavaliers host Miami. But what is exciting to watch is when the 7-foot Australian center faces his former team who traded him last summer so they could sign Kevin Durant, the Warriors.
