There were mixed emotions when Samsung Galaxy S8 didn't show up at the 2017 Mobile World Congress. Instead, the tech giant treated us with a teaser video of their upcoming flagship device. But thanks to the miracle of "leaks," photos and videos of the unit surfaced recently and we finally got a good look at the highly anticipated non-iPhone unit.
It's not like we haven't seen a few leaks here and there of the Galaxy S8 for the past few months, but this would have been the clearest visuals of the flagship devices. In fact, it is in line with suspected reports months ago.
Evan Blass, @evleaks, the uncanny reliable tipster first shared the photo of the Samsung Galaxy S8 on Twitter with a caption: "I think this is what you've been waiting for:" A day after the Tweet, Slashleaks posted a video on YouTube showing the real-life Galaxy S8. Also, the "leaked" handset coincides with the teaser video from Samsung during the MWC.
Well, for one, it is long and might be a bit too large for your hand in terms of using it as a one-handed device. Sporting a 5.8-inch screen, there are utterly minimal front bezels on the device.
Noticeable are 3 physical buttons as the Home button is no longer there. It is safe to say that two of the buttons are for the volume control and power. But the 3rd one might be either for the camera or the rumored AI, Bixby, as Samsung has always desired to add a digital assistant to rival the likes of Siri and Cortana.
The second video that surfaced on YouTube showed the Samsung Galaxy S8's keyboard being used and again it is gigantic! But it looks nice, that is, if you are into huge keyboards. And if you noticed the screen on the leaked image, March 29, it is the date of the official launch of Samsung flagship device, again coinciding with the announcement during the MWC.
The question now is: How will Samsung convince their buyers that the Galaxy S8 will not blow up in their faces and that it is safe, well following the Note 7 fiasco? And how will they be able to keep the flame going until its official reveal now that there are major leaks online?
The South Korean giant was right that the Samsung Galaxy S8 "was a phone." And now it is a phablet? But we will really know for sure, won't we, when the flagship device makes it highly anticipated appearance in NYC this March 29. Until then, stay tuned.
