Ford Expedition 2018: Now Bigger and More Powerful But Significantly Lighter; Alleged 400 Horsepower and 480 Lb-Ft Torque?

The 2018 Ford Expedition debuted at the Chicago Auto Show. It is now bigger, can fit up to eight passengers, but has significantly reduced its weight by 300 pounds.

Chicago Auto Show. Motor1 reported that the new full-size SUV arrived in Chicago with a bigger size, more amenities, and more power. The behemoth SUV was all the more interesting because it is now 300 pounds lighter thanks to a new aluminum body and lighter frame.

The new Expedition has updated styling. It has a new mesh grille very similar to the Explorer's Platinum trim, bracket-shaped headlights, and a lot more chrome. Apart from borrowing design features from other Ford vehicles, it now also has a smooth-sided and boxy shape similar to the Chevrolet Tahoe.

For engine choices, it will only be available with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost bi-turbo V6. This will have stop-start and will come in 10-speed automatic. Additionally, it is expected to tow more and will be available in both rear and four-wheel drive.

The new Ford Expedition is now four inches longer and has three inches more wheelbase. It now has more room for its eight-passenger seating capacity. Additionally, the American automaker has reportedly doubled the model's cabin storage space and now has a fold-out shelf in the rear cargo area for even more storage.

400 Horsepower and 480 Lb-Ft of Torque. Ford Authority reported that there has been an unconfirmed leak that the new Expedition can make up to 400 horsepower. The information allegedly came from Ford Canada's promotional website for the 2018 Explorer. The numbers have since been taken down.

In addition, Motor1 also reported that they were shown evidence that the new Expedition with 3.5L EcoBoost engine will have 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. That is 25 horsepower and 10 lb-ft more than the 2017 F-150 with the same second-generation engine, and 35 horsepower and 65 lb-ft more than its predecessor.

The 2018 Ford Expedition really looked huge at the Chicago Auto Show. Its updated design, larger exterior and interior, and a more capable engine really sets it apart. What do you think about it? Share your thoughts and comments below.
