Civilization 6: New DLC and February Mystery Updates

Feb 19, 2017 09:22 AM EST | BC Tabotabo

Civilization 6 released in October 2016. Its last major DLC was the Winter update in December two months ago. Gamers are now wondering when the promised DLC with official mod support, multiplayer, and Steam Workshop is coming.

Winter Update. According to Gamespot, the Civ 6 Winter update was released two months ago, exactly two months after the game released. The two DLC packs saw big balance changes, bug fixes, and gameplay tweaks. The first DLC centered around Poland and the leader Jadwiga, while the second DLC was Viking-themed. Both packs cost $4.99 each.

New DLC. According to Starz Post, Firaxis has confirmed that new DLCs are coming which will have official mod support, multiplayer, and Steam Workshop. When asked during a multiplayer live stream session (with Reddit user ConsiderableNames), Firaxis producer Peter Murray confirmed that it will be added to the strategy game soon.

In an interview, Murray shared that their team is currently working on "the addition of multiplayer teams, Steam workshop, and the mod tools." But he also said they have no other information to share other than that. These statements have been a source of frustration and disappointment in a lot of Civilization 6 Reddit users. However, a lot of players are still glad that at least the update will eventually come.

February Mystery Updates. In the Civ 6 subreddit, Reddit user hallobaba posted about the new mystery updates. Reddit user hallobaba believes that the new DLC will come in one to two weeks, given Firaxis' history of giving mystery updates right before a DLC's release.

Apparently a new "placeholder achievements" has been added to the game's Steam database. Another Reddit user in the Civilization 6 subreddit, Grzemek, also confirms that indeed these new placeholder achievement exists. Moreover, they are marked as "NEW_ACHIEVEMENT_NAME_5_X," where X stands for a number between 17 to 26.

In addition, Reddit user Reutermo had also noted that a leak was posted accidentally before the game was released. According to the leak, which may or may not be accurate according to Reutermo, Isabella of Portugal appears to be the next leader.

Civilization 6 released four months ago and hopefully Firaxis will make good on its promises for the new DLC with the multiplayer teams, Steam workshop, and the mod tools. While some mod tools are available, official mod tools will be a lot easier to work with. When do you think the new DLC is coming? Share your thoughts and comments below.
