Thomson Reuters released their Top 100 Global Innovators list this week, and included Ford Motors for their "technological innovation" according to a company press release.

"Developing creative solutions to real problems in mobility and manufacturing has always been a core of the Ford philosophy and today we are encouraging innovation more than ever," says Bill Coughlin, CEO, Ford Global Technologies in the press release. "We're in an increasingly competitive marketplace and embracing the challenge to continuously improve quality, safety, energy efficiency and technology.
Making the Top 100 Global Innovators list means a huge accomplishment for the company that has invested a lot towards developing "intellectual property" and the company's engineers have lived up to expectations as of late. They have recently had almost 500 patents granted for hybrid electric vehicle technology Ford announced in the press release.
The company has improved enhancements for programs like the Employee Patent Incentive Awards which is used to motivate engineers and designers to "think outside the box" for different and new solutions.
In total, invention submissions are up over 60 percent since the launch of the incentive awards which includes memberships to TechShop according to the press release. This is just one of the positive ways Ford has improved the past five years.
"From the Model T and the moving assembly line to the latest C-MAX Energi and Fusion Energi plug-in hybrids, Ford has been on the leading edge of using technology to benefit our customers and we don't plan to slow the pace anytime soon," said Coughlin in the press release.
The Detroit-based automotive company currently employees over 172,000 workers in 65 plants worldwide according to the company's website. They distribute vehicles to over six continents around the world as well.
