BMW Enjoys Its Best Sales Month Ever

The BMW Group announced Wednesday the sales report of March 2012 with a pride of breaking its previous all time record.

The report indicated that the automaker sold a total of 185,728 BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce vehicles in March, beating the previous sales high of 165,855 in June 2011. Compared to March of last year, it gained 12 percent increase. The first quarter of 2012 also marked the best-ever first quarter in the company’s history with total of 425,528 units, an 11.2 percent increase from the first quarter of last year.

“The BMW Group achieved an all-time high in sales last month and the best first quarter in its history,” commented Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing BMW.

Robertson credited attractive and young model range and healthy balanced growth strategy for achieving this milestone. He added that 2012 will be the best year in terms of sales, with the good first quarter momentum.

“The company plans to grow faster than the market as a whole in 2012 and expects to achieve new sales volume records for its BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands,” Robertson added.

The BMW brand performed the best among the BMW Group, selling 13.4 percent more vehicles in March than the same month of previous year and achieving the brand’s best single month ever. The popular BMW 3 Series sold 29,004 vehicles, which is a 19.2 percent increase from the previous year. The BMW 1 Series 5-door sold 18,598 vehicles, up by 40.8 percent from 2011, and the X3 also enjoyed the sales figure of 14,847, a 59.4 percent increase.

In terms of percentage increase, the BMW 6 Series reported a stunning 454.8 percent increase from the previous year, selling total of 2,247 vehicles compared to last year’s 405.

MINI’s March sales figure grew by 5.6 percent compared to last year, but combining the total sales figure of the first quarter yields a 12.1 percent increase from 2011. During the first three months of 2012, MINI sold 68,210 units, making it the best first quarter for the brand.

In addition, BMW Motorcycles also had their best first quarter ever with a total of 24,373 motorcycles sold. The sales figure for the single month of March was 12,295.
