Spotlight: Race Cars Take Position in New York

British automaker McLaren is a small company with a big mission: to convince the buying public that it's a maker of roadgoing race cars, and not just a manufacturer of track toys. The 570S, which was revealed publicly for the first time in New York, follows up the swift work done by the inimitable 650S.

But that didn't stop McLaren from also showing the 2016 P1 GTR at the New York auto show last week.

The P1 GTR builds on the incredible McLaren P1 hybrid-electric supercar, and uses the same 3.8-liter V-8 that looms large in the 570S and 650S. Photos don't do the P1 GTR justice: To stand alongside the P1 GTR is to be in awe of its presumed capability.

For a company that hasn't exhibited on the auto show floor in New York before, it's quite an achievement for McLaren to have nearly stolen the show.
