Woodward Dream Cruise Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The 2014 Woodward Dream Cruise auto show kicked off today in Detroit and will likely bring in around a million car enthusiasts to see 50,000 or so hot rods, classic cars and more.

Touted as the largest auto gathering anywhere, the event began as a small-scale get-together organized by a local car club, NBC News reported. Muscle cars, collectibles and other auto treasures will cruise up and down Woodward Avenue as fans watch from the curbs.

Ralph Reah of Lansing, Mich., brought a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport to this year's show, which marks the event's 20th anniversary.

"I'm an F-body fan; I've been an F-body owner since I was 23 years old," Reah told the Detroit Free Press. "I started out with Firebirds, Trans-ams. He bought the Camaro, and I kind of liked it."

Reah, 47, came to the show with his best friend, 46-year-old Greg Baron, to "sit back and watch the cars," he said.

"We're getting older," he told the Free Press. "Time's getting short."

The Woodward Avenue Cruise operates in a 16-mile loop, and this year's lineup includes offerings from Ford, Chrysler and Chevy, WOMC reported. The event features games, merchandise and food in various restaurants along the designated route.

In time for the auto show, Bob Seger released a cover of John Hiatt's "Detroit Made" on Thursday for radio ahead of his upcoming album, the Detroit Free Press reported earlier this week.

Produced and recorded in Nashville, the track is Seger's first new song since the previously unreleased tracks that were included on his 2011 compilation of "Ultimate Hits," and its release was intended to be concurrent with the annual car tradition.
