Sam Lessin Leaving Facebook for New Territory

Facebook is losing its vice president of product management. Sam Lessin, who joined the company in 2010, announced in a personal Facebook post this week that he will be leaving, TechCrunch reported.

Lessin came to Facebook after his startup Drop.io was acquired by Mark Zuckerberg, and his post hinted at upcoming forays back into the tech world.

"This is the first time I can think of since middle school where I didn't have a very concrete next step to take in life," he wrote. "If past performance is any indication, I will be starting something soon enough ... What, I don't know, but generally volume of ideas has never been much of an issue for me."

Re/code noted that Facebook's purchase of Drop.io was an all-stock deal that closed the company, showing that Zuckerberg was after the startup's talent rather than product.

Lessin's resignation will be effective before the end of the month.

"Esteemed colleagues, it is with quite mixed emotions that I write to say that August 29th will be my last day at Facebook," he wrote in the relatively short post.

The former Facebook VP will go on to work with his wife, Jessica Lessin, on The Information, a new tech publication.

Previously a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, Jessica Lessin launched subscription-based tech news site The Information in December.
