Driver Killed After Vehicle Gets Submerged in NJ Lake

A dump truck hit a car at a traffic light on July 18, sending them both into a nearby lake, submerging the vehicle and killing its driver, police said, according to the Associated Press.

The dump truck driver was also injured during the incident.

The incident took place at 3:08 in the northbound lanes of Brunswick Pike at the intersection of Lake Drive, according to police Lt. Joseph Amodio.

Daniel C. Everett, 28, of Westampton, was charged with one count of second-degree death by auto. Additionally, he issued five motor vehicle citations, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

Both vehicles dropped in Colonial Lake, with the truck on top of the submerged car, according to Lawrence police Lt. Charles Edgar.

The truck pushing the car at least 200 feet from an intersection into a park and then finally into the lake.

A body was removed from the scene of the incident by a coroner, according to AP. It took two hours for a tow truck to remove the dump truck from the water.

Inside the damaged vehicle was the body of its driver. The driver has not been identified yet.

The truck and car didn't have any passengers according to police.

Initially police didn't know how many people were inside the vehicles.

Four divers went into the water to try helping the rescue option.

The dump truck driver was conscious and alert at the scene and was taken to a hospital, according to the Associated Press.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation by the Lawrence Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Serious Collision Response Team.
