2015 Mazda 3 Earns Five-Star Safety Rating From NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that the 2015 Mazda 3 has earned its highest five-star overall safety rating.

The 2015 Mazda 3 received five stars in front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

Both the hatchback and sedan options of the 2015 Mazda 3 received the five-star rating, according to the NHTSA.

Mazda's new vehicle has not been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2014 model was a Top Safety Pick+ however.

The five-passenger car was redesigned for the 2014 model year, so interested customers should only expect a few improvements for the 2015 model.

Safety features available for the 2015 Mazda 3 includes:

- forward obstruction warning (optional)

-electronic stability control (standard)

-antilock brakes (standard)

-blind-spot monitoring (optional)

-daytime running lights (standard)

-lane-departure warning (optional)

The Mazda 3 competes with similar vehicles like the 2014-'15 Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Kia Forte and Toyota Corolla, among other vehicles.

In comparison, the 2015 Kia Forte earned a four-star rating from NHTSA.

The 2015 Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla have yet to be rated, according to the NHTSA.

The 2014 versions of those vehicles all earned a five-star overall safety rating.
