2011-'13 Ford Escape Tops NICB’s Most Stolen SUVs and Crossovers List

The 2011-'13 Ford Escape topped the most stolen SUVs and crossover vehicles list issued this week by the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

The 2011-'13 Ford Edge came in second behind the Escape, and the Ford Explorer was three.

The top 10 metropolitan markets for SUV and crossover vehicle thefts include: New York, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., San Diego and Dallas.

The 2011-'13 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Kia Sorento were also popular vehicles among car thieves.

"In terms of class, compact CUVs experienced the most thefts with 6,981," the report said regarding the list. "Large SUVs were next with 3,206, followed by midsized CUVs (3,204), large SUVs (2,902) and premium CUVs (2,394)."

Data involving stolen sport-utility vehicles and crossover-utility vehicles from January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2013, were included in the National Insurance Crime Bureau's report.

In total, 21,711 late-model SUVs and crossover vehicles were reported stolen during the three-year period.
