2015 Ford Mustang GT to Come With Electric Line-Lock

Ford has announced that its new 2015 Mustang GT will come standard with an electronic line-lock feature.

Line-lock allows the car's front brakes to be applied while keeping the rear wheels available to spin. This feature is normally used by drag racers, as it gives them the chances to warm up back tires before a run.

Off the track, it allows drivers to provide some entertaining burnouts.

"We're using advanced controls technology for the all-new Mustang to provide some of our most dedicated fans with an industry-first feature they can use when they go to the track," said Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer, according to Ford. "With electronic line-lock, customers who drive their Mustangs to work all week and then compete on the weekends will appreciate not having to modify their brake systems to be able to do effective tire prep at the drag strip."

Locking the front brakes at the staging line will also prevent the vehicle from accidentally rolling forward, which would cause a disqualification, according to Ford.

When a driver releases the brake pedal with the line-lock enabled the hydraulic control unit for the stability control system is able to unlock the rear brakes is able to keep the front brakes locked.

By applying the accelerator, drivers are able to spin the back wheels, either until the tires are warm enough for a race, or until they burn the wheels in a cloud of smoke.

"Electronic line-lock for 2015 Mustang GT is intended for use only on racetracks. Racing your vehicle will void your warranty," Ford warned interested customers in a statement.

The new GT goes on sale this fall, according to Ford.
