2015 Nissan Murano To Debut Wednesday

Nissan has provided a sneak peek at its 2015 Murano crossover, which is slated to debut on April 16 at the New York Auto Show.

The Murano, which first launched in 2003, has become more luxurious in this latest version, USA TODAY reported. The new crossover is expected to hit dealerships later this year.

Coming in at around 130 pounds lighter than the outgoing model, the 2015 Nissan Murano runs on a standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 260 horsepower, which is expected to have a fuel economy improved by 20 percent.

The third-generation model features "concept car-like styling, premium interior and advanced, purposeful technology," Nissan said in a press release.

The Murano's exterior design has been updated with a new grille headlight design and LED lights as well as other touches to give it a more powerful look.

"At Nissan, we create concept vehicles with an eye toward production, rather than just for entertaining auto show audiences," Andy Palmer, Nissan chief planning officer and executive vice president, said in a statement. "Likely few people who saw Resonance in its North American International Auto Show debut imagined that we could build such a futuristic design. But here it is, ready to hit Nissan showrooms less than 24 months later."

Inside, the crossover has technology including connectivity for navigation and mobile apps, an 8-inch touchscreen, an 11-speaker sound system and Bluetooth connection.

Safety systems available for the Murano include Moving Object Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Predictive Forward Collision Warning and Forward Emergency Braking, according to the automaker.

The new Nissan Murano will be available in four grade levels later this year, all of which will be offered in front-wheel and all-wheel drive options.
