5 Ways Twitter Will Change for Facebook-Like Update

Twitter users, brace yourselves. The 140-character messaging service is about to get a new look.

The latest Twitter update started rolling out for some users on Tuesday and will continue to spread to the rest of the platform's roughly 250 million active accounts.

The revamped timeline looks the same as one that Twitter started testing in February and is the social network's biggest departure yet, clearly channeling the Facebook profile, Mashable reported.

How will it differ from your current Twitter experience? If your account hasn't been updated yet, here are five ways Twitter is going to change.

1. Your user photo, which is known as an avatar or "avi" to Twitter power users, will be larger.

This change is probably what makes the revamped timeline most similar to Facebook: a profile photo to the left with a large cover photo for a background.

2. Some of your tweets will look different from the rest.

Twitter will put the spotlight on your tweets with the most interactions by making them larger than the others in your timeline.

3. Photos and videos will be featured on their own timeline.

Users can choose from different timelines, including all tweets or tweets with just photos and videos. From the official Twitter blog post, it sounds as if everyday users will also be able to differentiate between all tweets and tweets that are replies, something already available for verified accounts.

4. You can highlight your favorite tweet.

Users can pin one of their tweets to the top of their pages to show people what they enjoy tweeting about or tell followers a little more about themselves.

5. Will your favorites stats be visible?

Twitter isn't clear on this one, but for some of the accounts with the revamped timeline, "favorites" is pinned to the top of the account along with a number indicating how many tweets the user has starred.
