Songza App Picks Your Music Based on the Weather

The world of online music streaming is getting rather cluttered, but Songza may have found a way to stand out from the crowd.

The music service has partnered with The Weather Company to gear its playlist suggestions based on whether it's sunshiny or stormy outside, Yahoo Tech reported.

Songza is a free app available for Android, iOS and online that lists mood options to tailor your music listening. Similar to the recently launched Beats service, Songza has algorithms that will "learn" your habits and preferences.

The collaboration with The Weather Company will give Songza a unique way to figure out what you want to listen to. The app will be able to use the weather forecast for your area to analyze sunrise and sunset times, temperature and precipitation as well as whether or not the weather is unusual for the time of year.

Songza will also be able to learn your routine based on the weather; for example, its algorithms should "learn" that you don't commute to work when it's heavily snowing. The app is geared to follow your patterns and use the information to make future playlists.

"Songza's mission is to be everyone's personal music concierge," Elias Roman, co-founder and CEO of Songza, said in a statement.

"That kind of premium experience requires being excellent at two things: expert human content curation and algorithmic, data-driven anticipation of users' content needs, so customers don't have to work to find the perfect thing. With new data provided by The Weather Channel, we can more accurately predict your context, helping you enjoy more sunsets and weather more storms."
