Buick's 2014 LaCrosse recently earned the top five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Both the LaCrosse and LaCrosse eAssist received the highest overall score from the NHTSA, according to a company press release.

Each vehicle received five stars in the side crash test, five stars in the frontal crash test, and four stars in the rollover crash test.

"Employing many advanced technologies, including the use of camera and radar, to help avoid crashes, the refreshed full-size sedan offers one of the most comprehensive collections of standard and available safety features in the segment," the automaker said about its new LaCrosse. 

The 2014 LaCrosse has not been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The IIHS conducts the new small overlap front crash test which is considered an important test now among new car buyers.

The 2013 LaCrosse was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick, so the bar has been set high for the 2014 LaCrosse.

"Helping the driver identify potential crash situations, visual, and audible or where available, seat vibration alerts are initially used by these systems," said the automaker.

The new LaCrosse comes equipped with safety features like eight standard airbags, including rear-seat thorax airbags. The rear-seat airbags were designed specifically to protect the upper torso.

The Buick LaCrosse competes with similar vehicles like the 2014 Acura TL and Lincoln MKS.
