2013 Los Angeles Auto Show: Porsche Debuts Two New World Models

The Porsche Macan compact debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Thursday, joining several other models that Porsche highlighted at the event.

The compact sports utility vehicle is the fifth model line for the brand, which also put the spotlight on its new 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet; the Panamera Turbo S and Panamera Turbo S Executive and the 918 Spyder at the show.

Porsche calls the new Macan "the first sports car in the fast-growing compact SUV segment." Coming in two models, the Macan is available in Macan S or Macan Turbo.

The Macan S version has a 3-liter twin-turbo engine that can jump from zero to 60 mph in five seconds, while the Macan Turbo's 3.6-liter twin-turbo engine reaches 60 mph in about four and a half seconds.

"The Macan possesses all the qualities that have made compact SUVs so popular around the world: a practical, flexible interior; the visibility and sense of security that comes with extra ride height; and the ability to traverse rough roads with ease," Matthias Mueller, president of the executive board of Porsche AG, said in a company press release"The Macan's agility, grip and steering precision are easily the best in class--and the 400-horsepower Macan Turbo is certainly the most powerful in its segment."

Scheduled to hit American dealerships in late spring of 2014, the Macan S will be priced at $49,900 while the Macan Turbo will start at $72,300.

Porsche also launched the 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet vehicles at the auto show. Both feature a 3.8-liter engine that can reach a top track speed of 195 mph, said the press release. The 911 Turbo Cabriolet is priced at $160,000, while the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet costs $250,000.
