Meg Ryan Stars In and Produces NBC Sitcom

Meg Ryan will star in and produce a new NBC sitcom, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 51-year-old actress, whose last TV appearance was on several episodes of Showtime's "Web Therapy," was featured on a PEOPLE magazine cover showcasing her newly private life in New York earlier this month.

"The onetime queen of romantic comedies has largely retreated from Hollywood, preferring instead to focus on her life with her 8-year-old daughter, Daisy, and her boyfriend, rocker John Mellencamp, 61," the PEOPLE article said.

But Ryan, a three-time Golden Globe nominee who was known as "America's Sweetheart" in the 1990s, seems to be back on her way to the spotlight.

In the new NBC project, she will star in a half-hour comedy as a devoted single mother working at a New York publishing house, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Once a brilliant editor, Ryan's character now works for her former intern, a neurotic 30-year-old named Brenda, and works to balance conflicts between her boss, her teenage kids, her almost ex-husband and her meddlesome mother-in-law.

"Family Ties" writer and Emmy nominee Marc Lawrence will write the show, which will be executive produced by Ryan and manager Jane Berliner for Universal Television and Lawrence's Reserve Room Productions.

Perhaps the third time will be the charm for Ryan as she stars in the not-yet-titled sitcom. The "You've Got Mail" actress previously co-starred in NBC's short-lived comedy "One of the Boys" in 1982. She was also a regular on ABC's 1985 western, "Wildside," which only lasted a month.

Both shows were filmed several years before Ryan's breakout role in "When Harry Met Sally," which featured the famous restaurant scene. Ryan later starred in beloved romantic comedy "Sleepless in Seattle" along with Tom Hanks.

The new sitcom did not yet have an IMDB page as of Saturday.
