Shooting Near U.S. Capitol Hill: Driver Miriam Carey Killed After Car Chase in Washington (VIDEO)

A car chase near U.S. Capitol Hill on Oct. 3 ended after law enforcement officials shot and killed the driver.

The black vehicle was registered to Miriam Carey, 34, and local police believe she was the drive who was killed.

"The suspect in the vehicle was struck by gunfire," said Washington's police chief, Cathy Lanier, according to CNN.

The woman drove into security barricades at the very outer perimeter of the White House. Then the car drove up Pennsylvania Avenue toward the Capitol where Congress was in session.

Police chased the car down and were forced to fire at the vehicle to get it to stop.

The incident is not believed to be an act of terrorism, according to Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine.

"I got that from multiple sources - that they think she may have had some mental health issues," he said. "Obviously the way she responded at the gate near the White House and then turning around and hitting Secret Service."

The vehicle was carrying a 1-year-old girl, who was rescued and taken to a hospital.

The shooting took place outside the Capitol building, where lawmakers were trying to figure out a solution for budget impasse that shut down the U.S. government this week.

The Capitol was locked down for about an hour during the incident.
