Frankfurt Auto Show 2013 Update: Tesla Reveals Plans to Expand Supercharger Network

Tesla Motors announced plans to expand its European Supercharger network and showrooms during the Frankfurt Auto Show.

The next six markets to get Supercharger stations include: Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.

Supercharger stations can be used, for free, to charge Model S vehicles.

"This year has already been one of tremendous growth and expansion throughout Europe for Tesla and Model S," said CEO Elon Musk in a press statement.

Telsa has set a goal to sell 21,000 Model S vehicles worldwide in 2013.

Musk said the automaker is hoping to compete with companies like BMW and Mercedes-Benz in Europe.

In the U.S., Tesla opened its 26th Supercharger station in Waco, Texas and will open more stations throughout the Northeast by October.

Tesla has a plan in place to have 100 Supercharger stations open in the U.S. and Canada by 2015.

Supercharger stations can only be used by Model S vehicles and won't work with other plug-in vehicles.

Last week Musk revealed he was taking a six-day family trip in his Model S from California to New York. He claims that the trip will only require nine-hours of charging total.
