2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Coupe & Convertible Spotted! GM Search File Confirms V8 Engine?

Details for the new 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 have been spotted on the website of General Motors. The discovered file reflects the "LT5 V8" description for the upcoming model.

The 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has been spotted in a listing on the official website of General Motors. The regular product options (RPO) search file includes the new model's name and it apparently contains a few description.

According to the listing on the RPO search, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is listed as LT5. The description reveals that the new model sports a 6.2-liter 8-cylinder gas engine. The search file, which was first reported by Weapon X Motorsports, also mentions that the new ZR1 will come with aluminum block and GM's SIDI direct injection.

Speculations are now circulating that the new coupe can deliver 500kW with its supercharged V8 engine. The theory also mentions that the engine will be mated to an automatic transmission. With these speculations, the new coupe appears to come out as a rival of Porsche 911 Turbo, McLaren Sports Series and Ferrari 488, PerformanceDrive noted.

Meanwhile, the Convertible ZR1 has been spotted while undergoing the test at the Milford Proving Grounds of General Motors. Spy photos reveal the automaker has used a fabric for the roof top of the new ZR1. With the removal of the hard roof top, it is expected that the performance of the new ZR1 will be affected. However, the new model is also expected to run with the improved braking system and performance tires that can most likely compensate for the changes in the roof top.

Furthermore, the body of the new model appears similar with the existing Coupe. It also runs with similar wheels and body panels. However, spy photos reveal some refreshes on the design too. The mule spotted sports a smaller rear wing.

The upcoming 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is expected to be introduced in the upcoming 2017 Continental Tire Road Race Showcase IMSA event. It is also believed that the sibling convertible will be launched in the same event as well, CarTrade has noted.
