Gator Attacks 6-Year-Old Boy, Saved By Father and Good Samaritan (VIDEO)

A 6-year-old boy was saved this weekend after his father and a stranger were able to fight off an alligator in Florida according to WFTV.

Joseph Welch was preparing what was supposed to be a day full of canoeing at Boynton Beach when his son, Joey Welch, wandered off and swam into dangerous waters.

An 8-foot-long alligator then appeared at around 1:30 p.m. at the refuge, which is located near U.S. 441 according to the Palm Beach Post.

Once the father noticed his son was struggling in the water, he ran straight in.

"I ran in the water. It was about waist deep. I had my son like this here, because I didn't want to play tug-o-war with the alligator," said Joseph Welch according to WFTV. "While I'm doing that, I'm punching the alligator on top of the head as hard as I could."

"I heard these blood curdling screams and I saw this gator that had his right arm in his jaw and I just freaked," said Welch according to WFTV.

As the man was throwing punches, a Good Samaritan rushed over to the water to help. He repeatedly kicked the gator in the stomach and the combined effort caused the gator to release the young boy.

The alligator only left teeth marks on the boy's arms and stomach. His entire family knows though that things could have been a lot worse.

"He just swam to me and clamped my arm. He didn't wait for a second," said Welch according to WFTV.

The gator was caught today, April 22, and killed according to WFTV.
