Bentley seems to be planning to build an all-new-two-seat sports car that blends high-performance, technology, and luxury. For over a year, the British automaker was believed to be deciding between launching a small SUV to slot below the famous Bentayga or instead releasing a brand new sports car.

A month ago, Crewe chopped off the concept's roof to create the excellent EXP 12 Speed 6e that features an all-electric powertrain. In an interview, Uday Senapati, Bentley's boss of technical operations of the Mulliner bespoke division, announced that there would be customer demand for such a model along the lines of those two concepts, but the situation is not that simple.

He added, "We're testing the market all the time. On similar lines, when we floated the idea of a two-seater sports car, that's been received extremely well. And for once people haven't said 'this is not the right product for Bentley' so it's a guaranteed success."

Meanwhile, the firm wants to build the so-called Bentley two-seater sports car, but there are some concerns within the Volkswagen Group such as model might step on the Audi R8's toes. The Speed 6 also still hasn't got the stamp of approval from Wolfsburg, even though Senapati has already admitted that a lot of development work has already been finished.

He also revealed that the model would certainly have a solid business case and as a part of a big automotive conglomerate, it will allow Bentley to find the needed underpinnings without any hassle. He also clarified that an electric powertrain is a must for the new sports car, as hinted by the new concept from the 2017 Geneva Auto Show.

Furthermore, electrification might be the only solution to differentiate the new two-seater Bentley Coupe/Cabrio duo from the Audi R8, especially since Audi has already dropped the R8 E-Tron. But until Bentley has decided about putting those two concepts into production, the firm's agenda is quite full.
