2018 Nissan Leaf new spy photos have recently surfaced revealing a heavy camouflage mule. Reports predict the new version of the electric car is most likely to come out soon.

The photos show the prototype is on public roads while undergoing testing. Nissan seems to be almost ready for the launch of the new Leaf as the heavy coverings suggest the new model is almost done. Considering it has been seven years since the predecessor was launched, it is highly expected that the next generation Nissan Leaf is already due for some refresh.

The new Nissan Leaf appears to have some major refresh. The new spy photos reveal the design of the new Leaf got its inspiration from Nissan's IDS concept car which was introduced at the 2015 Tokyo auto show.

The Nissan's IDS concept car features the floating roof and the V-Motion grille. Both elements can be spotted in the spy photos of the new Leaf.

Furthermore, the Nissan's IDS concept of angular headlights on the sharp nose of the vehicle is also evident on the new Leaf. The spy photos also hint on the thin horizontal wraparound taillights.

However, the latest spy photos for Nissan Leaf also confirm several designs from the current compact hatch have been retained. The rear-door openings appear to be the same as the one from its predecessor.

The similar doors suggest that the new compact hatch will still take on the basic platform of the current Leaf. Several body design of the predecessor is also expected to be retained with this same platform.

Green Car Reports has noted that Nissan has previously announced that the upcoming Leaf will come with the appearance close to a conventional car, and not much of an EV-look. The automaker added that the new compact hatch will most likely share the design language of other Nissan models.

In another report, Nissan's Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura told AutoExpress last year that they have planned to complete the final refreshed model of Nissan Leaf by the end of the decade. Shiro Nakamura also teased that they are targeting to offer an increased range of more than 250km.

The 2018 Nissan Leaf has not been confirmed to show up in the upcoming 2017 New York auto show next month but many believe it may likely be introduced there.
