Subaru BRZ STI: An Impressive, Comfortable, and Fun Small Coupe

The Subaru BRZ STI made its debut at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon. The BRZ STI is the more performance-oriented model of the rear-wheel drive BRZ coupe. The car, despite its small build, packs quite a lot of interesting features that could easily make it one of the best in its class.

The new Subaru BRZ STI does not sport any upgrades with regards to its engine. No horsepower upgrade is lined-up for this small coupe. Nevertheless, Subaru did throw in performance part upgrades that promise a more comfortable and enjoyable driving experience.

Subaru claims that the upgrades were intended for "pure handling delight." The upgrades will focus on the BRZ STI's cornering ability rather than straight line speed. In order to add durability to the coupe's chassis, the BRZ STI is equipped with a flexible V-brace for its engine bay and flexible chassis support rods that are bolted into the undercarriage, according to Left Lane News.

The Subaru BRZ STI packs a 2-liter flat-four engine with 197bhp and 151lb-ft of torque, according to Evo. It is still unknown whether the engine will come equipped with either a turbo or supercharger.

Another major improvement for the BRZ STI is its tires. The standard BRZ model has a 17-inch alloy wrapped with a Michelin Primacy Tires. The BRZ STI is expected to sport an 18-inch rim with a stickier and more performance-oriented tire. Some claims that Subaru might opt to pick the Yokohama Advan Sport tires.

The Subaru BRZ STI is also expected to receive a handful of cosmetic upgrades. A few photos shared by Subaru showed a BRZ STI sporting a gloss black spoiler, front, side, and rear skirts, leather-covered steering wheel, and seats in leather and Alcantara upholstery.
