Critics Claim That The Chevy Bolt EV Is Dead

Recently, Auto World News reported about the high discount prices for the Chevrolet Bolt EV. Critics claim this is because the car is as good as dead.

The Chevy Bolt EV recently won the 2017 Green Car of the Year Award. But the future looks bleak for the award-winning electric vehicle.

According to a report by CNBC, the discounts on Chevy Bolt cars at dealerships are substantial proof that the car will not be a serious contender in the electric vehicle market. Several analysts backed this statement up.

According to Chowdhry, an analyst at Global Equities Research, says GM simply does not have what it takes to compete with Tesla. The analyst event went as far as calling the Chevy Bolt EV an "Ugly Tiffin Box."

In a note sent back in November 2016, Chowdhry claimed that the Bolt is "Dead on Departure." Furthermore, the analyst made his point stronger by sending another note last Tuesday.

Despite the critics, Fred Liguori, a spokesman for Chevrolet said that the Bolt EV's future looks "really bright." He stated that the car is the fourth-bestselling plug-in vehicle. His statement reads:

"If you look back at any of the awards the car the won, look at some of the early customer enthusiasm around the car, look at the dealer enthusiasm around the car, Bolt EV is on track to bring a lot of new buyers not only to the Bolt EV nameplate but also the Chevrolet family."

Ligouri even defended the discounts by claiming other dealerships are raising the prices for the car. Which is true since other dealerships are adding $5,000 to the suggested sticker price.

As of the moment, the Chevy Bolt EV can only be purchased in a handful of markets across the country. This includes California, Oregon, Massachusetts, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and lastly, Virginia.

A single charge of the electric vehicle in question can go as far as 238 miles. Deliveries of the Chevy Bolt EV dropped to 952 in February from 1,162 in January.
