Chrysler Recalls Dodge Challengers, Fire Risk Puts Drivers in Danger, Warned Not to Drive (VIDEO)

Chrysler has told Dodge Challenger owners with V-6 engines to keep their vehicles off the road for now as a short in the wiring circuit can cause them to catch fire according to the Associated Press.

Approximately 2,500 owners have been told to not park the cars in a garage or near a structure until the problem is fixed.

The recalled vehicles are from the 2013 model year and have V-6 engines. If your vehicle was made before the 2013 model year or has a different engine, you should be fine to use your car. The vehicles were made during an eight week production process that finished on Jan. 24.

Chrysler said in a press statement that they haven't been able to figure out where exactly the short occurs, but it's in a place that casual car owners would never see according to the Associated Press.

No one has been injured from the issue yet but six separate fires have been reported, each damaging the vehicle significantly. A seventh fire is still under investigation.

"Customers who are uncertain if they are affected should take the above precautions and inquire with their dealers," said a statement from the Chrysler Group.

Chrysler will begin notifying customers through mail and telephone and have already stated that they will provide loaner cars until the repairs are finished. The repairs will be completed free of charge according to Chrysler according to the Associated Press.

Chrysler is also willing to transport the vehicles to the nearest dealership to make the repairs according to company spokesman Eric Mayne.

Maybe stated that the recall also affects approximately 1,900 additional vehicles on dealer lots that have yet to be sold.

A shipment of electrical components reportedly arrived at the company's Brampton, Ontario production plant that weren't "configured" correctly according to the Associated Press.

Anyone with question on the recall should contact their local Chrysler dealer.
