Brabus Turned the Mercedes G550 4x4 Into an Off-Road Monster

The Mercedes G550 4x42 is already an excellent rugged truck by its own right. In comes German high-performance aftermarket tuning company Brabus which unveiled its latest creation at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Dubbed as the Brabus 550 Adventure 4x42, it packs the same rugged design from Mercedes with added performance boosts from Brabus.

The original G550 4x42 packs an impressive 416bhp and 450lb-ft worth of torque. Brabus' tuned G550 has an even more amazing 542bhp and 590lb-ft torque. Despite weighing close to three tons, the off-road utility truck can sprint from zero to 62mph in just 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 130mph. It's almost akin to seeing the Incredible Hulk equipped with Hermes' flying sandals.

Under the hood, the Brabus G550 4x42 still has the same 4.0-liter V8 engine just like the original Mercedes. According to The Drive, the tuning factory added bigger twin turbos into the engine which accounts for the upgraded power and torque.

The Brabus G550 4x42 has all the trimmings and liveries of a standard off-road truck, maybe even more. Compared to the Mercedes G550 4x42 which, despite its off-roader brand, is almost bare-bones, the Brabus' upgraded G550 packs a winch mounted on a black bull bar, an electronically-adjustable suspension, a hood scoop, and underbody protection to protect those delicate parts especially when doing hardcore off-roading.

The custom suspensions can be configured for Comfort, Off-Road, Sport and Individual settings. The suspensions can be independently adjusted both at the front and rear axles. As for its liveries, the upgraded Mercedes G550 4x42 has diamond-plated roofing and a second set of LED driving lights, according to Road and Track. In fact, the truck is riddled with LED auxiliary lights.

The Brabus G550 4x42 can be purchased as a whole depending on the specifications the buyer wants. Brabus said that if you own an existing Mercedes G550 4x42, they are also open to converting it for you.
