2018 Volvo XC60 vs 2017 Jaguar F-Pace: Which Mid-Sized SUV Is Faster?

Recent statistics have revealed that the mid-sized SUV car segment has been steadily growing in the past few years. This brought by the significant drop in terms of gas price and the competition within the industry has also caused some carmakers to slash down the price of some of their models. The latest to join the fray is the 2018 Volvo XC60 which many car analysts have tagged as the main competitor of the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace.

The Volvo XC60 was unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor Show and it is considered as the successor to the first-generation XC60 which was released in 2008. The new XC60 is using the larger SPA platform which underpins the smaller 60 and 90 models.

Specifications. Under the hood, there are a few choices for the 2018 Volvo XC60. Engine options for the 2018 XC60 are the T5 and the T6. There is also a T8 plug-in hybrid model which packs 400hp and has an all-electric rating of 35 miles. For those looking for a performance boost, there is the T5 petrol variant which packs 251bhp.

The 2018 XC60 comes in standard all-wheel drive with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The T5 model has a front-well drive option and Volvo confirmed that manual transmission models will soon follow. Volvo has yet to reveal the full performance figures of the new XC60, although the company did confirm that it can sprint from zero to 62mph in 5.3 seconds.

In comparison, the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace has a 3.0L supercharged V6 engine with 380hp and 332lb-ft of torque. It comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a top speed of 155mph. It can sprint from zero to 60mph in 5.1 seconds. The F-Pace is available in five different trims. There is the standard model, the F-Pace Premium, F-Pace Prestige, F-Pace R-Sport, and the high-end F-Pace S.

The 2017 F-Pace is equipped with an 8-speed automatic all-wheel-drive system with an integrated electronic torque vectoring. The F-Pace is also equipped with a three drive select system for Rain, Ice, and Snow.

Tech and Safety Features. The 2018 XC60 packs quite a handful of tech features. The SUV supports Volvo's Pilot assist self-driving features. Volvo also equipped the XC60 with a new collision avoidance system that automatically steers the car out of the path of a head-on-collision. This new system only works if the car is traveling at speed of 37 to 87mph.

As for the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace, the car is equipped with standard safety features but it lacks some collision-assist technologies. It has traffic detection features and Autonomous Emergency Braking, but that about it. However, there is one nifty feature called "Activity Key" which is a waterproof bracelet that acts like a keyfob so that you will not have to misplace it

Looking at these performance figures, one can be compelled to pick the 2017 Jaguar F-Pace. However, the F-Pace S model costs $58,695. The exact pricing of the 2018 Volvo XC60 is still unknown. Many motoring analysts are convinced that pricing would play a significant factor as to which of the two SUVs will ultimately come on top.
